Windows Server 2008

Windows Server 2008 is supported with some caveats:

1.	User Account Control must be disabled for proper installation. Since the User Control Panel is likely not available on your server, you can use one of the alternate methods described at:

2.	IPv6 must be disabled. Microsoft has made a tool available to do this for you at:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952842

3.	The console does not prompt for you to start the service on exit. You must remember to start the service manually through either the Services administrative tool or the DidItBetter MMC.

1.	Log in as the Add2Exchange Service Account. If you were previously logged in as Administrator to prepare for installing Add2Exchange, you may log off that session.

Conditional Step

If you are installing Add2Exchange on a system outside the United States, you will need to set the Regional and Language Options for the service account to US. This is an account-specific setting and does not affect the rest of the system.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options and choose English (United States) for Standards and formats.

2.	Double-click the Add2Exchange zip file.

Tip

If you are using Winzip or another Zip file tool, you can extract the MSI file to any directory first if you can't run the MSI directly from the Zip file.

3.	Double-click the MSI file.

4.	Click Next >.

5.	To agree to the license terms, select I agree and click Next >.

6.	If you are a licensed user, this screen informs you of your upgrade assurance expiration date. If your upgrade assurance has already expired, click Cancel and contact DidItBetter for a current version upgrade purchase. Otherwise, click Next >.

Add2Exchange installs its own SQL Server 2005 Express instance. The SQL Server executables can only be installed on the C: drive.

7.	Verify that the drive on which you are installing Add2Exchange meets the minimum free space requirement outlined in the section System Requirements and Dependencies. If necessary, change the folder specification.

8.	Click Next >.

Note

If the installation process appears stuck, sometimes the Password Prompt dialog has appeared behind one of the other windows. Move the other windows to see if this has happened.

Tip

Both the Add2Exchange Service as well as the SQL Server (A2ESQLSERVER) Service use the Service Account logon. If you change the password on this account, be sure to change the logon credentials for both services as detailed in the section Changing the Service Account Password.

10.	Enter the Service Account password twice and click OK.

Note

If your Exchange Server does not appear in the list, you can type its NetBIOS name in the text box at the bottom of the dialog instead.

11.	Select your Exchange Server and click Accept.

11.	Confirm you have selected or entered the correct NetBIOS Server name for your Exchange Server and click Yes.

12.	Confirm the Service Account name by clicking OK.

Important

If the Service Account name is administrator, you are installing under the wrong account and Add2Exchange will prevent the install from going further. You must install Add2Exchange under a separate Service Account.

14.	Click Close.

15.	Double-click the Add2Exchange Console icon.

Be Aware

If this is an upgrade from a previous 6.3 installation, the SQL Server Express installation will be skipped. Continue with the instructions at the beginning of the next stage.

16.	Let the SQL Server Express Component Update dialog complete and click Next >.

You will see the installation of the various SQL Server Express components progress. This may take several minutes. Please watch this phase because occasionally the install will require a reboot and the screen continues without prompting. It is on this screen that you should monitor progress closely.

Click OK.

The console will now open and you can begin configuring relationships.

Congratulations! Add2Exchange has successfully been installed!
