Q.We already have a SQL database on another server. Can we use that one or do we have to create another instance for the Add2Exchange install?
A.Unfortunately the answer is no, we can’t use an existing sql, but we’re working on it.  No ETA at the moment.  The good news is that the SQL install will detect if its components are already installed and will reuse them if so.  But it still has to install its own instance, separately administered.
Q.Will Add2Exchange synchronize old appointments and meetings from the dates before I installed the program if I need to capture them all?
A.Yes this can be done. See the Synchronization Range Prior setting in the relationship configuration in the section Synchronization_Range_from_Today.
Q.Can I create an item in my Private Calendar and have it somehow tie into the group Calendar?
A.YES. Add2Exchange was designed for users with this requirement from handheld mobile device devices in mind. There can even be 2 Calendar relationships for this use, one from Public-to-Private and one from Private-to-Public, if the Private appointments should show up on the Public. Since the Public Calendar folders are not available offline on most mobile devices, Add2Exchange makes a copy from a group or Public Calendar of everything within the definable date range and puts a copy in your personal Calendar.  Again, to go from Private-to-Public, and make appointments from your personal Calendar to your Public Calendar, you will need to set up two relationships.
Q.When I set up Add2Exchange I set up the synchronization mode for timed synchronization for every 2 hours. Once I have set this up can I also do it on demand and if so how?
A.Yes, close the Console and start the Add2Exchange Service.  The Add2Exchange Service will begin synchronization within five minutes of the Add2Exchange Services being started.
Q.When I create an appointment in the Public Calendar, Add2Exchange copies it to my personal Calendar. Then I make a change to the item in my personal Calendar and move it to a later date. Will Add2Exchange overwrite the one I changed the next time it syncs? Can I make changes to an item that has been copied over to my personal Calendar like meeting notes without it being overwritten?
A.First question, Yes Add2Exchange will synchronize that appointment even if you move it. Second question, yes you can make changes and keep those changes. You will need to make sure that you do not have the option in your Console to overwrite the changed Destination item and instead select Preserve changes and make a new tied copy.  If you change the Destination item, it will untie the changed item and make a new copy of the Public Calendar appointment with whatever is in the Public store, keeping your changes in the new untied copy.
Q.Does Add2Exchange have to be installed on an Exchange server, or can it be installed on any file server?
A.Either. You can install this on a Utility file server but should install this directly on the Exchange Server.  If you CANNOT install anything on even a file server, or cannot get the permissions required to create a Service Account, consider the Add2Outlook product that has similar functionality but is installed on a Workstation. We do not suggest Add2Outlook over Add2Exchange, only in the case where users have PST files or cannot get access to the server, as in a hosted environment.  Add2Exchange is ALWAYS the better option. the Service Account has to be a local server administrator with the permissions specified in the manual set up in System Manager and User Manager BEFORE INSTALLATION.
Q.How long is the Add2Exchange trial period? What happens when the trial version expires?
A.The trial version is 21 days from when you made the first relationship of that type. When your trial period ends, it stops working with no effect on any of the items you have already created. The Add2Exchange program won't synchronize any new Calendar items, Contact entries, or Tasks or make updates to the ones that have been synchronized already during the trial. The Trial version is the same as the live version, only it has a time limit for synchronization.  The trial is available from www.DidItBetter.com
Q.My trial expired and I want to buy the solution. How can I buy the solution?
A.You can purchase the solution online at our online store or by downloading and faxing your order form to us so we can process your payment. To license see this section: Licensing Add2Exchange, and updated instructions may be found at www.DidItBetter.com for instructions on requesting your activation key.
Q.You said your product can make two folder equivalent.  I only want to include the contents of one folder in another and not vice-versa.  Can Add2Exchange do this?
A.Yes, just set up the single relationship from the Private Calendar to Private Calendar (or whatever combination fits your business need).  If you want both ways, just add the other relationship.  Each relationship can be one-way or two-way.  One-way means it goes from Source to Destination and any changes on the Destination do not get synchronized back to the Source. two-way relationships can be edited (or deleted) in either location and the change will go back to the Source.
Q.What do you mean by domain license?
A.An unlimited license per Exchange Organizational Unit (EOU) refers to the unique key that covers all users in a single Exchange organizational unit as defined for Exchange. Most organizations have all users in one Exchange Organizational Unit.  A Single user or multiple user licenses are tied to that user's unique user address and is nontransferable to other users. An unlimited license per organizational unit covers all users in the organization at any time in the present and any new users in the future.
Q.Do I have to reinstall the program once I buy it?
A.No, since you have the trial version already installed, you won't need to reinstall the program when you buy it unless a new update has been released – and then it is highly recommended. To license see this section: Licensing Add2Exchange, and updated instructions may be found at www.DidItBetter.com for instructions on requesting your activation key. Once you send us the information we need to issue your activation key, we will generate your unique key and email it back to you. All you need to do is copy and paste the entire key (including dashes) in Box #1 of Step 3 and your solution will be activated.
Q.Do relationships stay when uninstalling and installing Add2Exchange?
A.YES, finally. But it may be a good idea to export and save the registry key first. To update, you should be able to install over an older version, but the better, safer way is to stop the Add2Exchange Service, uninstall the old one. Do not remove the installation directory (default is C:\Program Files\OpenDoor Software®\).  The relationships will remain, the program should be licensed and you should go into the Add2Exchange Console and check to make sure the relationships are not in relationship Alert. If the relationship is no longer valid, it will be moved to the Alert Status. You will need to go into the relationship and find out what the problem is, give the account permissions or reassign the Source or Destination and get the relationship working again. Some Common reasons a relationship would be in alert are changing permissions, a restored Public or Private mailbox (the IDs are different), or a disabled account. Please see this section: Troubleshooting.
Q.Does Add2Exchange work under Outlook Web Access?
A.YES! One issue for users is that OWA cannot allow for Private appointments. This means that potentially all appointments would have to be synchronized, or you would have to assume that you could not make Private items from OWA. Now Add2Exchange can synchronize with advanced features that will allow for Private appointment trigger by special user definable triggers when you make the appointment that make it Private.
Q.What can we expect if we upgrade a workstation from Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2003?
A.It doesn't matter which Microsoft Outlook client or mobile device you use with Add2Exchange.
Q.If the Add2Exchange software can be installed on any file server, can it be administered remotely (PCAnywhere, Citrix or Terminal Server)?
A.Yes. Often we find it helpful to remotely support new users with Level 2, 3 and 4 Technical Support.
Q.Are there any conflicts with the software and anti-virus software (McAfee)?
A.No. however, to increase synchronization speed, we require your antivirus program be disabled from actively file scanning the default installed directory and subdirectories. The server-side application has no reports of any problems with any other programs at this time. Our client-side applications are more dependent on any other Outlook com add-ins loaded on the server (and therefore conflicts are more likely) but again, we have no reports in the user base with any conflicts with Add2Exchange.
Q.the Service Account cannot log on to the file server or Exchange server.
A.the Service Account must be a member of the local server's Administrators group in order to log on to the file server or Exchange server. If it is a domain controller, it just must be part of the Administrators group in the Builtin container – not the Domain Admins group. See the Technical Bulletin Area  for more information.
Q.During the Add2Exchange install, the Add2Exchange Service does not start.
A.This is normal. Start the Add2Exchange Service after all your relationships are made and you close the console and reply YES to start the Add2Exchange Service.  Make sure the credentials are correct.
Q.If I log off the Synchronization Server with the Add2Exchange account, will the relationship setup still run correctly?
A.Logging off does not affect the Add2Exchange synchronization process. Add2Exchange functions as a Windows Service that "Loops" based on the interval you set via the Utility Screen within the Console. This means all relationships will execute while the server is on and the Add2Exchange Service is running no matter which user is currently logged on or if the server is not logged on at all.  After 10 cycles of the Add2Exchange Service it stops and restarts itself in order to reset the Microsoft Exchange communication channel (CDO) as is per Microsoft's Best Practices. So if you ever momentarily see the Add2Exchange Service in a stopped state, or see an event in the event log, it may be in the middle of restarting itself. You can tell if you check in the Task Manager for the Add2Exchange Service Restart.exe program. This is the reset utility which the Add2Exchange Service calls after the 10th consecutive synchronization process.
Q.Is there a way to tell if my Exchange server is set up/configured correctly?
A.DidItBetter Software can remotely certify and install or upgrade your system for normal Add2Exchange operation. Microsoft has provided a free tool to help with other security and configuration issues that will not stop Add2Exchange processing, but may help strengthen your security model.  Please use Microsoft Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer Tool to determine the overall health of their Exchange servers and topology. The tool scans Exchange servers and identifies items that do not conform to Microsoft best practices. The Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer programmatically collects settings and values from data repositories such as Active Directory, registry, metabase and performance monitor. Once collected, a set of comprehensive 'best practice' rules are applied to the topology.  Administrators running this tool will get a detailed report listing the recommendations that can be made to the environment to achieve greater performance, scalability and uptime. Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP. NOTE: It is recommended that this tool is installed and executed on a workstation rather than an Exchange server. Q.Is the Add2Exchange software loaded on both the server and the workstations or just the Exchange Server?
A.Add2Exchange is only installed on the Exchange or utility server as per our best practices. There is no Workstation install.
Q.Does the installation of Add2Exchange require a reboot of the server?
A.The installation of Add2Exchange and its components typically does not require a reboot.  However, it is recommended that you apply all Microsoft updates prior to and after installing Add2Exchange. We  strongly recommend rebooting the server after applying Microsoft updates as a routing course of action.  If they are not installed prior to the upgrade, you the installation will cancel until the required prerequisites are installed.
Q.I have another DidItBetter Software product such as Add2Outlook or P2P Synchronizer installed on my workstation computer.  Will this cause a problem with Add2Exchange?
A.Add2Outlook, P2P Synchronizer and other DidItBetter Software products are aware of each other and will not synchronize the same set of folder items.  If you are upgrading to Add2Exchange from those products and do not need the very specific situation that requires a workstation-based product, deleted the relationship in Add2Outlook, let it clean up after itself and then install Add2Exchange and recreate the relationship.  If you still require Add2Outlook, both may operate on items residing on the same server as long as the relationships do not target folders in common.  Again, it is highly recommended that you remove these products and replace their relationships with Add2Exchange relationships.  If you are removing other DidItBetter Software products, be sure to delete the relationships and remove Destination copies prior to uninstalling the product.  This insures that synchronization information from the old product is not left in Exchange, which would prevent the new relationship from operating as expected.  If you have already uninstalled the old software without deleting the relationship, consult the Technical Bulletins area of our website to find out how to remove DidItBetter.com synchronization information from Exchange items.  If you are a licensee of a DidItBetter Software product that you are replacing with Add2Exchange, please call us about your cross-grade options.
Q.We are running Exchange 2000 Standard. Add2Exchange was tested and as soon as it starts synchronizing, my CPU just sits at 30% (Store.exe). I must have something that is conflicting with something here as it is a working product as I am told.
A.The program momentarily amps the CPU and connection to the Exchange Server during the time of synchronization. Usually it stays around 25-50% and does not go to 85-95%.  Although we have not encountered any conflicting programs, there is a potential for conflicts with any combination of programs operation such as antivirus or not having the appropriate Exchange Service Packs. Please review this section: System Requirements and Dependencies.  If you have questions or think you have a problem, please Contact Technical Support at support@DidItBetter.com.
Q.I have a front-end OWA server in a DMZ that talks to a back-end Exchange server.  On which should I install Add2Exchange?
A.Install Add2Exchange on the back-end server.  Add2Exchange talks directly to the MAPI system of Exchange, which is wherever the primary Mailbox and Public Folders live.
Q.How frequently can I synchronize with Add2Exchange?
A.The synchronization interval may be set as frequently as five minutes, but ten minutes is the minimum recommended interval.  Hint: if you are just trying to force synchronization for testing purposes, you may leave the synchronization interval alone and simply restart the Add2Exchange service in the Services administrative tool or the DidItBetter MMC Console.  Restarting the service forces a near-immediate synchronization without the need to change settings.
Q.Can pre-existing identical items in the Source and Destination folders be matched and merged by Add2Exchange?
A.No, Add2Exchange does not provide this functionality.  You must make sure your Source and Destination folders do not contain identical items in order to avoid duplication.
Q.Can the Add2Exchange Service Account be hidden from the Global Address List?
A.No.
