After installing Add2Outlook, pressing any Add2Outlook toolbar button results in an error dialog if CDO (Collaboration Data Objects) has not been installed.  CDO is an optional setup component of Outlook 2003 and prior versions.  CDO is available as a separate download for Outlook 2007.  Install CDO to resolve this issue.

On initial setup of A2O, in order to properly register, you will have to close Outlook (completely) and then open Outlook again.

Sometimes A2O may APPEAR to be enabled, but is not. If when you press the A2O Sync button you get the error message that "A2O is not enabled for synchronization", you may need to manually make sure Outlook is not in memory. You should either log off the machine and back on or reboot as this will normally fix the issue.

To manually check if Outlook is in memory and manually close the Outlook processes, go to Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete). Then select the Processes tab. click on the Image Name to sort alphabetically and select the Outlook.exe and Mapisp32 processes (if there) and end the task (right click and select End Process Tree.) Then close Task Manager and go back into Outlook.

If the relationship(s) have been made already, the program will be initialized correctly and will be available to sync. Depending on the date range the speed of the computer and the amount of items to be synchronized, it may take a few moments to complete the synchronization. The buttons for A2O will reappear again on the bottom left hand side of Outlook when the synchronization process is complete.

It seems that you do not have the correct x500 address in your Active Directory for your account. This address sometimes gets changed, or deleted by a system administrator, and in order for this product to work you will have to add it back in Active Directory for the user.

Exchange will only return the external e-mail address if the e-mail address for the local domain was removed or the e-mail address is a different username. This is the case here.

For example, if the email address is nklein@yourdomain.com, and the X500 address is nk, the program cannot make the match and evaluate to the right account. Since the X500 is NK and the actual e-mail address is nklein@ you do not get a mismatch.

For this example, the user must go into Active Directory for Nklien, and add an SMTP address for nk@ OR change his X500 to nklein, then both would match and the program will understand the accounts and refer to them correctly.

Issue: I've followed your instructions but am falling at the 1st hurdle. When running the .msi it asks for me to install the .NET framework but when I do a Windows Update as the link tells me to do it says there are no new updates to install so I must have the most current operating system. What is this asking me to do?
Resolution: Installing the .Net framework will ask you to reboot your system. Be aware of this and plan to do it when you have a 15 minute or so "window of rebooting" opportunity. This is how you do it.

When you go to Windows Update, specify the Custom install option.

Once you have selected and installed the .Net framework, the installer should ask you to reboot. Go ahead and reboot.

Then go back to the Windows Update site, and then do a normal scan, and it will determine that the .Net Framework is there and there is now a Critical Update you should do (version 1.1) Go ahead and do it. Additional .Net updates could be available relative to the date of this technical bulletin.

Once you are done, it may ask you to reboot again. Go ahead and reboot.

Then continue with the installation of the desired OpenDoor Software

There are two reasons you may see this error:

The most common reason is CDO is not installed.

To install CDO on the workstation, go to the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, select your Microsoft Office version and Change the options by Adding new features. Drill down to Outlook and then select Collaborative Data Objects and then install and run from this computer. For step by step screens, refer to your Add2Outlook Installation Guide. When CDO has been installed, you should reboot your computer and your A2O should work. Following this process will let the programs pass information back and forth and Add2Outlook will synchronize as desired.

If it does not, then close Outlook. Uninstall A2O and then reboot your computer. Then with Outlook closed, install A2O again and set up your relationship.
The next most common reason this error occurs is if the Visual Basic Runtime files are damaged or not installed correctly. This can happen if a program like Outlook was installed and then uninstalled. This sometimes becomes an issue, so we have included this file in the Console directory of Add2Outlook, which is installed by default to: C:\Program Files\OpenDoor Software®\Add2Outlook\Console.

To download the file:

Download this file: MSComctlfix.exe.

Close Outlook.

Make sure you are an administrator of your own machine and then run the file on your affected system.

Once done, the appropriate files will be installed and registered and you can go back in and use the program normally. If the installation is not successful, then you probably do not have "administrative" privileges on your local machine. If you are not a local administrator on the machine, you should elevate your privileges under the Administrator account (usually through Computer Management, Local Users and Groups.) Then log back in and reinstall the fix.

Description: You are setting up a two way synchronization with your Exchange server but every time you hit sync you get this error “Add2Outlook has NO RELATIONSHIPS to synchronize.”

Also, once you manually click sync, all mail stops being received.

Once these errors start up the only way to check email again is to close Outlook and start over again.

Resolution:

You must make the Exchange account the default profile. The default profile is a POP3 account. For A2O and P2P to work, the default account has to be the Exchange server - a caveat to Outlook. To do this, go into Outlook, select Tools, Email Accounts, View or change email accounts, change the default email account to the Exchange account instead of the POP3 account (exact procedure may vary if using pre-2003 version of Outlook.) When you license, the Exchange account has to be the default, but if you license it and then switch back to the POP3 account after licensing, this works in most cases.

Also, we have seen problems with offline folders. When A2O connects to the offline folders, it does not disconnect. If possible, disable offline folders.

Description: You are trying Add2Outlook on a Windows XP SP2 system running Outlook 2003. After installation, you tried to open the Add2Outlook Console and got a runtime error.

Resolution:

Collaborative Data Objects is not loaded on the computer. Go to Add Remove Programs, Microsoft Office, Add Features, Advanced Customization and drill down to Outlook. Expand it. Find Collaborative Data Objects and install it. You may need the CD to install. Reboot and do all system updates for your computer from Microsoft. http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

NOTE: If you do not have CDO installed, it is probably because you did not read the manual. If so, then you probably do not have permissions to the Source and Destination folders and this will cause you more problems. Refer to the manual shortcut on your desktop before you set up a relationship. It is highly unlikely that you will have the proper permissions, so trying it without checking and making sure will only cause you more issues.

Then go into Outlook and set up a relationship.

Description: Add2Outlook is an Outlook Com Add-in that is loaded on startup. If you use Word as your Outlook Editor, sometimes Outlook doesn't close even though it looks like it has. It is still in Task Manager Processes [Outlook.exe]. So if the computer still thinks Outlook is open, because it is in the processes, when you open up Outlook again, A2O (and P2P) doesn't load since it still thinks Outlook is open.
Resolution: The easiest way to stop this from happening is simply not to close Outlook. Another way is to log off and back on the computer. A more technical way is to go to Task Manager, go to the Processes tab and search for Outlook.exe and end the task, close the Task Manager and open Outlook normally. Each of these procedures have one goal--to start a new instance of Outlook so the A2O Outlook Com Add-in can be re-initialized.

NOTE: Outlook should not be in Exchange Cached mode because P2P and A2O automatically check the Exchange Server when it loads, and if it is offline or in cached mode, Exchange will not be there to allow the programs to initialize. If Exchange is not available, neither program will work when activated manually or through timed replication. To check this, go into Outlook, select Tools, Email Accounts, View or change email accounts, Select the default email account (normally Exchange), Select Change, and ensure the checkbox for Use Cached Exchange Mode is NOT checked (exact procedure may vary if using pre-2003 version of Outlook.) If cached mode is enabled, disable it and restart Outlook as specified above.

Remove only Public2PrivateWare.

Close Outlook.

Go into the registry. Start Run Regedit.

Go to Current User, drill down to Software, OpenDoor Software and remove just the P2P key - only that key and any subkey under that.

Close the registry.

Log off and back on or reboot the machine.

Go into Outlook and it should function as desired if installed. If not, then close Outlook, uninstall and reinstall A2O.
